I specializing in working with adults who are ready for a foundational change. You may be struggling with symptoms resulting from a specific overwhelming/traumatic experience, from repetitive childhood (or adult) challenges, or the daily demands of life. Or perhaps you cannot pinpoint an exact origin, but you experience symptoms nonetheless.
Challenges may include: trauma, PTSD, anxiety/panic attacks, feeling helpless or overwhelmed, chronic stress, phobias, depression, physical tension/pain, anger/irritability, sleep/digestion/immune-system issues, a feeling of numbness or disconnection, hyper-sensitivity, , poor self-confidence, or challenges connecting with others.
This may be the first time you've sought support, or you may have engaged with significant personal growth, psychological or spiritual work but are still struggling with the same issues.
Our bodies are designed for wellness. They give us signals every moment telling us exactly what they need to feel better. Yet most of us have been trained to mistrust and override our body's communications. The good news is, when we learn to listen, correctly interpret and attend to our body's needs, everything gets a LOT easier.
My job is to help you establish a deep, trusting friendship with your body and your own intuition so they can guide you towards optimal wellbeing for the rest of your life.
Yes! I would be happy to support you via video conference (Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, etc.). I have found distance work to be highly effective for most people. There are some differences to working remotely, most notably that I cannot provide physical contact, but I can always direct you to making contact with yourself in a way that simulates many of the same effects.
I realize it can take a bit of a mind-shift to imagine doing this kind of work remotely. That said, it can be quite powerful. I have interviewed clients who work with me remotely. They consistently tell me it feels like I am there in the room with them, that they feel safe, and that the work has produced the results they were wanting.
Even without physical proximity, I will help you feel deeply protected, warmly connected, safe and strongly supported. I will be right there with you.
If you are unsure whether remote work is right for you, I invite you to try a session and see how it feels for you!
I like to think of Somatic Experiencing as "personal training for the nervous system." It helps to restore the natural resilience of your basic biological operating system, supporting you to release the past and navigate stress--and life in general--with greater ease.
While SE can be therapeutic, SE is not therapy. SE is distinct from therapy in that it addresses the physiology underlying psychological or emotional issues rather than working exclusively with a person's psychology/congition. While emotional and psychological issues or traumatic narrative may arise during our sessions, the primary focus of SE is to address the physiological manifestations of these issues and help the body restore its natural resilience to stress.
The Somatic Experiencing Professional Training does not train SE Practitioners to diagnose or treat mental or medical health conditions. Our work together can compliment and enhance the efficacy of other mental or medical treatment you may be seeking.
I also incorporate my training in various personal-growth modalities, attachment repair practices, life coaching, energy work and intuition to augment the tools of SE.
We all do our very best to deal with the circumstances of our lives. There are many things we can heal on our own, and some growth happens best with outside support. If you are reading this, I am guessing that you (or someone you are seeking support for), may have reached the limitation of your/their ability to "do it yourself."
The relationship between an SE Practitioner and SE client is an essential part of the process of restoring nervous system self-regulation. Our nervous systems develop and learn to regulate by mirroring the regulatory patterns of those we interact with. As an SE professional, I have trained my own nervous system to function with resilience. As a client, your nervous system can receive cues from mine as it reestablishes its own inherent functionality.
We are social animals, and we are able to relax and heal deep dysregulation more easily when another human is supporting the process. The aim is not to encourage dependency on the SE Practitioner. To the contrary, the more your nervous systems starts developing more functional pathways for engaging with challenging sensations/experiences during our sessions, you should feel increasingly more competent at managing similar types of sensations or experiences on your own.
You will know that this work is taking effect because you will notice something *different* happening. The shifts may be subtle at first and will grow over time. In the beginning, you may notice that you feel a bit less sensitive to stimulation (sounds, smells, light), or notice that you are sleeping just a little better, or when you get caught up in racing thoughts or emotions that you may spontaneously pause and notice something beautiful.
The ultimate success metrics are that your symptoms (a) get triggered less often (b) get triggered less intensely and (c) recover faster. We want to raise the threshold for how much stress you can successfully integrate in life. Life will always have natural highs and lows, but we will help you increase your capacity to thrive in the face of challenges.
Similar to a good workout where muscles are sore afterwards, you may also experience being more sensitive/less settled for a couple days before your system rearranges into an overall state of greater balance. While the shifts may not always be immediately pleasant, the fact that your system is not doing the exact same thing that it always does is a good sign that a new pattern is taking form.
We will always aim to work gently and within a tolerable integrable range that best supports your development.
